UK Mattress Recycling Milestone

The UK's first national mattress recycling scheme, Recoflex, has reached a significant milestone. In its first year of operation, the scheme has successfully recycled over 500,000 mattresses, preventing approximately 15,000 tonnes of waste from going to landfill.

This achievement aligns with the European Union's waste management hierarchy, which prioritizes recycling over disposal. It also contributes to the UK's net-zero emissions target by reducing the environmental impact of mattress disposal.

AstraZeneca's Fleet Electrification

Pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca has announced plans to electrify its entire global fleet by 2030. This ambitious initiative is part of the company's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.

  • By 2025, AstraZeneca aims to have 50% of its fleet composed of electric or hybrid vehicles.
  • The company also plans to install charging infrastructure at its sites worldwide to support the electrification of its fleet.

This move by AstraZeneca is a notable step towards reducing Scope 3 emissions, which are associated with activities outside the company's direct control, such as employee commuting and business travel. It also demonstrates how enterprises can proactively contribute to the Paris Agreement's goals.
